Distal

Distal project

The basic reason for this small project was to pre-test to extreme conditions one single SiSiC ceramic VR unit for the SolAir project. And so to speak speed up the base of experience, knowhow and hereby improve the products otherwise delivered to the SolAir project.

Super ambitious very early project investigating if black multi cell SiC ceramic based VR-Units could out-perform metal fiber Volumetric Receivers developed some 10 years earlier. The availability of equipment and support at Solar de Almeria was so important.

Funding partners:

  • Stobbe Tech A/S, Denmark – stobbe.com
  • Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (Ciemat) - including availability of solar test beds on the Plataforma Solar de Almeria in South-Spain - ciemat.es

Project title: "Testing new advanced ceramics for volumetric receivers"

Distal research project sponsored by the EU commission under the program Improved Human Potential / IHP under EC-DGXII which offered access to the PSA facilities for year 2001.

Project period: year 2001 and 2002 campaign at PSA

Project results: Yes - Black ceramic VR units is able to handle for a longer time at higher temperature exposure to solar radiation.
